Orthopedic physical therapy

After surgery

Care that follows your surgeon's written protocol for the spine, shoulder, hip, knee or foot, with a note back to the surgeon at the steps they ask for.

This care is for you if…

  • Your surgeon has sent a protocol or told you to start physical therapy

  • You want to know what each precaution is for

  • You are not sure what is normal at each stage

  • You are returning to work or a sport and need a step-by-step plan

  • You want your surgeon to hear from us at each step

What to know about after surgery care

  • What we do

We read the protocol with you, examine what is healing and what is stiff, and treat by hand, with movement and strength work, in the order your surgeon sets. We explain each precaution and why it is there.

  • What decides how many visits

Your surgeon's protocol, how the tissue is healing and how you respond. We do not move past a limit your surgeon has set, and we ask before we do.

  • Who treats you

A physical therapist from our five, each with a manual-therapy fellowship. We match you to the clinician who treats that body part most often.

  • How it is paid for

We bill most plan types and explain what you may owe before your first visit. If you pay yourself, we give you a written estimate first.

    How fees work
  • When to see a doctor first

Call your surgeon the same day for a fever, a wound that is red, hot or draining, or a calf that is swollen and tender. For chest pain or trouble breathing, call 911.

  • What to bring

Your surgeon's protocol and operative notes if you have them, your discharge papers, and loose clothes that leave the area easy to reach.

Questions about after surgery

What if my surgeon has not sent a protocol?

Ask the surgeon's office to send it to us, or bring it with you. If you cannot get one, we call the office with you.

How will my surgeon hear from us?

With a written note after your first visit and whenever your plan changes, in the way their office prefers.

Can you start before my follow-up with the surgeon?

Only if your surgeon has said you may. We ask at the front desk when you book, and we confirm it with their office.

Ready to have your after surgery examined?

We call you before your first visit to check your benefits.
